Gov Ayade punishes commissioner, MD for coming late to work

Two government officials in Cross Rivers state, Ntufam Gabe Odu Ojie and Dr. Oju Igile have been suspended indefinitely

They were suspended for reporting late to work by the state governor, Ben Ayade

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross Rivers state has suspended the Commissioner for Water Resources, Ntufam Gabe Odu Ojie, indefinitely for reporting to work late.

Also suspended indefinitely was the Managing Director of Water Board Limited, Dr. Oju Igile, This Day reports.

Speaking to journalists at the premises of the Ministry in Calabar, the governor said: “This is about 9 o’clock in the morning and the Commissioner for Water Resources is not at his duty post. The Managing Director of Cross River State Water Board is not in the office. I cannot understand why he is not in the office. I therefore, with immediate effect, announce his suspension. We will appoint somebody to take over this office with immediate effect. Any single commissioner I find in this circumstance will leave.”

Their suspension was announced during Ayade’s routine but unscheduled tour of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure that civil and public servants comply strictly with basic work ethics.

According to him, it was an act of indiscipline for appointees not to be at their duty post before 9am.

He noted that the suspension would serve as deterrent to other government employees, as well as appointees.

Weeks back, the All Progressives Congress in the state called for the impeachment of Governor Ayade for numerous constitutional breaches and various security challenges in the state.

The party accused him of being lukewarm over serious matters of public concern in the state, including security of lives and properties.
