The minister of the Federal Capital Territory has ordered a massive waste evacuation within the FCT and its environs
The minister said the evacuation must be done within seven days
However, the acting director of the Satellite Towns Development Department said the exercise will commence on Monday, September 19
The minister of the Federal Capital Territory Muhammad Bello has given a seven days ultimatum over the heap of refuse within the city of Abuja.
A statement by the chief press secretary to the minister Muhammad Sule said Satellite Towns Development Department has commenced with arrangement to clean up the Abuja city following the minister’s directive.
Sule said the minister in a new directive gave a seven days massive evacuation exercise of all waste within the six area councils in the FCT and the satellite towns.
He said that the acting director of the STDD Victoria Imande has also confirmed that the exercise will start on Monday, September 19.
He said the STDD noted that the FCT Administration is ready to clean all the nooks and crannies of the city and its satellite towns and rid them of all environmental nuisances.
Imande said department has also solicited for the cooperation and understanding of all the residents of the FCT especially those living in the satellite towns to collaborate with STDD towards achieving a clean and healthy environment.
She urged the residents to take personal interest in the exercise by owning the initiative and making personal hygiene part of their daily life activity.
Meanwhile, the minister had also given a directive that all beggars and destitute within Abuja and its environs be arrested at taken to a rehabilitation centre were their data will be captured.
The minister also ordered that after the data capturing of these beggars and destitute, a formal repatriation of the individuals to their various states of origin must commence immediately.
