Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has continued to cooperate with the EFCC since he returned from the US
He said on the order of Dasuki, he gave money to Fayose and Omisore for their governorship election
An EFCC source said he has been providing useful information
Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has continued to provide more damaging confession to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as his latest revelation implicates Senator Iyiola Omisore.
Obanikoro returned to Nigeria from the United States and reported to the EFCC office in Abuja where he has tried to explain his role in the infamous arms procurement scandal.
Obanikoro had implicated Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state in the N4.745billion wired to a company linked to him by the office of the national security adviser.
The money in question was wired into a company named Sylva Mcnamara within a period of seven months in 2014. Obanikoro revealed that N2.23billion was transferred to Fayose out of the slush funds.
The Punch reports that the former minister of state for defence admitted on Wednesday, October 19 that he gave N1.7 billion to Omisore in the build-up to the Osun state gubernatorial election which the latter lost to Rauf Aregbesola.
AN EFCC source said: “He told the panel that the N785m was spent on procurement of souvenirs for the campaign against Boko Haram in Lagos out of which N200m was spent on surveillance activities and N200m out of other remaining funds for operations was managed by the supposed owner of the company, Taiwo Kareem.”
It was reported that Obanikoro said that Sambo Dasuki, the former national security adviser to Goodluck Jonathan claimed he was worried about a supposed bomb blast in Lagos and therefore money was paid to one Silva McNamara that was introduced to him.
An EFCC source said Obanikoro said the money was paid into the personal account of Omisore and other accounts nominated by him.
He also asked the EFCC to confirm the detail of the transaction with the bank as a testimony to his claim.
He alleged that out of a total of N4.685bn paid into the account of Sylva Mcnamara, a company linked to Obanikoro’s sons, Babajide and Gbolahan while N3.880bn was paid to Fayose and Omisore for the election in the two states.
The EFCC source said: “The former minister, Obanikoro, is still with the commission. The investigation is still ongoing and he cooperated and answered the questions put to him.
“He admitted that he transferred N1.7bn to Senator Iyiola Omisire out of the N4.685bn paid into the Silva Mcnamara’s account on the instructions of Col. Sambo Dasuki, the former NSA.
“He said a total of N3.880bn was transferred to Fayose and Omisore from the N4.685bn that was transferred to the company account of Sylva McNamara.
“The former minister told the commission that Tope Aluko (the then Ekti State Secretary of the PDP) and other PDP leaders were present when the dollars were handed over to Fayose, who took them to a room next to where they met.”
He however said Dasuki did not tell him what the money was meant for.
Meanwhile, Fayose said those who arranged Obanikoro’s return to Nigeria, obviously did so in continuation of their project ‘Fayose must be implicated at all cost’.
According to him, he is not bothered because his election was legitimately funded.
“However, if this is why they are intimidating judges and the judiciary, it won’t work as far as my own matter is concerned as no one can play God.
“As far as I am concerned, I am busy here in Ekiti attending to the welfare and well-being of my people. I won’t be distracted.”
