Shehu Sani Senator opposes planned life pension for NASS principal officers

Sani said what Nigerians need is social insurance and not to pay for life pension to lawmakers.

Senator Shehu Sani has opposed the planned life pension for principal officers of the National Assembly (NASS).

Some lawmakers, including the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, during a constitution review session in Lagos state, hinted that principal officers of the National Assembly should be entitled to a life pension.

Sani said what Nigerians need is social insurance and not to pay for life pension to lawmakers.

The Senator also said that public office holders do not need to enjoy any form of immunity, adding that if it is allowed, it will be impossible to prosecute them

Sani said "I am personally opposed to life pension for legislators, governors or their deputies as well as against immunity for public office holders, but I am not opposed to immunity for the President and his vice."

Senator Shehu Sani recently accused the Kaduna state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai of planning to kill him.
