Abia state is in political bondage - Prime Minister reveals

The lingering governorship crisis in Abia state is seen as a political bondage

Chief Uche Akwukwaegbu, a respected elder criticised the political crisis on injustice and inequitable distribution of dividends of democracy

Akwukwaegbu is the Prime Minister of Ibeku clan and one of the frontline supporters of the Uche Ogah camp

Uche Akwukwuegbu said the people of Abia were tired with the democratic system in which Abia state politics is being controlled and directed by a single family.

The well-known man is the traditional Prime Minister of Ibeku clan in Abia state.

Akwukwaegbu stated that he has come under severe attack from supporters of embattled governor Okezie Ikpeazu, especially his fellow Ibeku people because he stood by Ogah.

The pro-Ogah man said he has no regrets queuing behind Uche Ogah. He said it became necessary to throw his weight behind Ogah in order to liberate the state from political bondage it has been for several years.

While explaining further, Akwukwaegbu said it is the likes of Uche Ogah that will give the statethe true freedom which he said cannot come under the current governor. The Prime Minister of Ibeku clan spoke with newsmen over the weekend. In his words, he stated:

“What is happening in Abia today is not good, they are doing politics of one pocket, politics of one family but people are scared to talk and if I don’t speak now, maybe I don’t have my life at hand and tomorrow I’m no more, I will carry the blame to the grave.

“They are persecuting me because I am speaking out so that people will know what is happening in Abia state. That is the reason I am supporting Uche Oga so that Abians can be liberated from this family.

“I want this government to respect the rule of law and swear-in Dr. Ogah as the authentic governor so that our people will not suffer with their children. This Abia state is not a personal property.”

Akwukwaegbu believed everybody in Abia should enjoy democracy dividends, adding that “we are all stakeholders and nobody should hold the state to ransom in the name of installing a governor.”

The Uche Ogah supporter also lashed out the Abia elders who of recent went to Abuja to show their support to the embattled Abia state governor despite an Abuja High Court judgement which sacked Ikpeazu as governor for giving out a false information on his tax documents.

The drama between Ikpeazu and Ogah has taken a new twist as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is believed to be angry that Ogah did not exhaust all internal mechanisms before heading to the court.
