Obaseki said he left the APC for the PDP to join force in driving Oshiomhole and the ruling party out of Edo State.
A former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State, Mr. Don-Pedro Obaseki, has dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He made the announcement on Sunday, July 24, at his Benin home when he hosted some PDP leaders led by the state chairman, Dan Orbih, and the party’s governorship candidate, Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
Obaseki, who is a cousin to the governorship candidate of the APC, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, alleged that there is discrimination and lack of transparency within the ruling party.
After leaving the APC, before pitching his tent with the PDP, he had declared to run for the governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party (AP) but his name was not included in the list of aspirants recently published the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Explaining the reason for his withdrawal from the APC and the AP, Obaseki said he defected to the PDP to join force in stopping Governor Adams Oshiomhole from imposing a “surrogate” as his successor.
“If I have decided to join my brothers, I have decided to join this my brother (Ize-Iyamu). More than anything, I am passionate about driving Oshiomhole and the APC out of Edo," he said.
“Edo people should be allowed to decide who should lead them and not by imposing a surrogate.”
The Edo state governorship election is scheduled to hold on September 10, 2016.
