In Lagos 11 dead as commercial bus crashes, bursts into flames

A ghastly motor accident involving a commercial bus in Lagos has claimed the lives of 11 passengers, while three others were injured.

The accident is reported to have occurred on Otedola Bridge, Berger area of Lagos State, yesterday, July 21, at about 6:10 pm.

The accident reportedly claimed the lives of eleven people comprised of eight males and three females.

The general manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Michael Akindele, confirmed the accident, adding that it occurred when the 14-seater passenger Volkswagen bus lost its brake and somersaulted, busting into flames.

He said:

“Eleven persons, which include three females and eight males were burnt dead. Three persons were rescued alive and were taken to the accident and emergency unit at toll gate.

"Policemen and fire fighters were on ground to put off the fire and clear the obstruction the accident might have caused.”

PM News reports that the driver of the bus had escaped the accident, fleeing the scene immediately after.
