Senate denies plans to impeach Buhari

Senate leader Ali Ndume has spoken out on the widely held speculation of an impeachment plot against President Muhammadu Buhari

Ndume denied that the rumour adding that there is no way the Senate can impeach the president without the National Assembly as a whole

The Senate leader, Ali Ndume, on Monday, July 25, has denied allegation that the Senate had planned to impeach President Buhari  saying that the Senate cannot impeach President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said this while briefing newsmen in the National Assembly  in Abuja.

He said that there is no way the Senate can impeach the president without the National Assembly as a whole.

“The impeachment is done by the National Assembly.

“The Senate cannot impeach the president but only by two thirds.  It’s a long process.

“As some are coming to impeach, their one leg is already with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We have a president that is straight forward on corruption and other things,” he said.

Earlier, it was reported that President Muhammadu Buhari was  threatened with impeachment by Nigerian senators and this resulted in strict warnings coming from different sections of the country against such act.

This happened during the plenary session on Tuesday, July 12, with the senators making their threats about the president known over the Senate forgery allegations scandal.

The lawmakers have since then debunked claims that it ever happened.

Meanwhile, Ndume said the president is doing all he can to revive the economy.

He suggested that 500 percent should be placed on all imported goods into the country so that people will be discouraged and start patronising locally made products.

“We have the best toothpick which is chewing stick. When we were younger, you will see a trailer of chewing stick transported to the north from the south east.

“They should put 500 percent on imported goods. I am trying to see if I will stop buying imported clothes and shoes.

“If you say public schools are not good then people like me will not be here,” he said.

He added that the level of commitment of the federal government has increased which is improving the working relationship among individuals.
