5 Foods To Eat Regularly That Help Lower Blood Sugar

Did you know there are 5 things you can do to keep your blood sugar at a rather normal level?

In this article, I show you how to maintain a normal blood sugar level whenever your blood sugar level gets high.

Impaired Glucose Tolerance or pre diabetes is a stage at which your blood sugar is rising but the doctors or the sugar-meter has not confirmed you “a diabetic.”

The problem is that so many people have this health condition but don’t know it. If your family history’s random blood sugar is between 7.8 – 11.1mmol/l or the fasting blood sugar is between 5.5 and 7mmol/l, you are in the danger zone.

Don’t get scared just yet…because these are warning signs that you are likely to develop type 2 diabetes. It can still be worked on at this stage with good diet and exercise.

Here are 5 foods that help monitor and regulate blood sugar when taken, on a regular basis.

1. Cinnamon:

Yes! Sounds ironic right? It’s sweet but contains substances that improve the function of insulin and ultimately lowers your blood sugar.

Cinnamon has many health benefits and helps to curb several diseases.

There are many varieties of cinnamon such as Ceylon and Saigon cinnamon. However, it’s advisable to avoid the Saigon variety as this can be dangerous to the liver.

The good thing is, a teaspoon of cinnamon powder in a cup of warm water can be used to start your day. This helps to stabilize blood sugar level.

2. Berries:

Yet another sweet fruit that should send diabetes -prone people running. But glucose is not the only constituent. It is rich in antioxidants and fiber which helps to prevent high glucose on the blood. It is rich in Anthrocyanins which inhibit certain digestive enzymes. This in turn  slows down digestion and prevents spikes in blood sugar after taking carb laden meals.

Since, I’m a book worm and a first class geek, I like to know a lot about how certain foods and fruits affect the body. This particular study I stumbled on involved giving a group of obese individuals blueberries.

So every day for 6 weeks, they followed a particular blueberry themed diet. At the end of 6 weeks, they all noticed a significant drop in their glucose levels.

From then on, blueberries have become a prescription I give to people with high glucose levels.

3. Fenugreek

is a spice whose seeds and leaves are used in Asian food.

They are rich in fiber, high in proteins and also helps in slowing down the rate of sugar absorption in the blood. This is most likely how they help to reduce blood sugar as the breakdown of carbohydrates is delayed and the regular high sugar load one would experience after a carb laden meal is prevented.

It also contains amino acid responsible for inducing the production of insulin.

4. Garlic

I know it smells horrible and it has a strong lasting smell. But it also helps in lowering blood sugar.

A study carried out on rats and rabbits showed that garlic extracts improved the availability of insulin in the blood.

One way to take garlic and hopefully avoid the pungent smell is to talent with a cup of water flavored with lemon which is a great deodorizer.

Let’s hear what the first class geek in me had to say about some recent garlic benefit research. A scientific journal called Maturitas, did an evaluation on 50 people with “uncontrollable” blood pressure. It stated that, by simply taking 4 capsules of aged garlic extract (960 mg) daily for 3 months caused their blood pressure to drop by an average of 10 points!

Though it has a not-so-pleasant smell, it has life saving benefits.

5. Green Vegetables

one common ingredient that all the above food items has is fiber and this has been very vital in reducing blood sugar and aiding digestion.

Green vegetables have a wealthy amount of fiber.

Making this a regular in each meal including breakfast not only reduces the blood sugar level, but also helps in controlling and ultimately reducing your weight. One way to consume green vegetables is by juicing them or cooking them with meals.

A great green vegetable juice that you can start with today is cucumber juice and if you don’t like the cucumber taste, you can vamp it up with an apple.

Below I will give a list of vegetable you can make juices with that help with weight loss and reduction of blood sugar.

These all go well with apples or berries which you can add to give a sweet taste to the juice with cinnamon.

The vegetables, spice, seeds and fruits given to us by Mother Nature can help lower your blood sugar. It could be the reason why she is called Mother Nature because a Mother always knows best.

You are probably asking yourself, “does that mean I have to stop eating what I am currently eating?”

Eventually, yes.

You would have to give up some of the things you are currently eating BUT the focus should be on developing healthy habits.
