Fulani Herdsmen -NHRC says Buhari ‘clueless’ over solution

The NHRC says that it is appalling that killings across states in Nigeria have become like a sport that occur almost daily

The commission also expressed disappointment that the administration of President Buhari does not even understand how to go about solving the problem.

President Buhari is said to be clueless about solution to Fulani herdsmen killings

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has raised the alarm over the growing rate of killings across the states of the federation.

The commission tweeted on its official Twitter handle on Monday, August 29 that the appalling nationwide killings, especially by Fulani herdsmen have become more of a sport that the government has not checked.

A clearly disappointed NHRC went on to describe the government of President Muhammadu Buhari as being clueless about what should actually be done to save the day.

NHRC’s tweet was in response to an editorial in ThisDay newspaper on Monday, which was titled, ‘The Killing Sport Continues…’

The commission’s statement came the same day Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose signed into law a bill which prohibits grazing of cattle on the southwest state’s lands by Fulani herdsmen.

Fayose’s action has been widely applauded while NHRC’s tweet is one of reactions that has trailed Buhari’s relative silence on the killings by the herdsmen.

Former president, Goodluck Jonathan was once accused of being clueless about how to run the country by the All Progressives Congress (APC), now, 15 months into his own administration, Buhari is now being charged with the same accusation as marauding Fulani herdsmen go on rampage across the country.

Meanwhile, Police in Enugu state has announced the arrest of an AK47-wielding herdsman, few days after some suspected herdsmen attacked a community in the state.

The latest arrest comes about four days after some herdsmen launched deadly attack in Attakwu community, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu state.
