PDP lauds appeal court on Ikpeazu’s victory

Party’s spokesman issues statement on PDP’s appreciation to judiciary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday, August 19 showed gratitude to the judicial arm of government over the Thursday, August 18 Court of Appeal ruling which upheld the election of Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, by setting aside the ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which was delivered by Justice Okon Abang a few months ago.

Leadership reported that the PDP issued a statement at Abuja, the federal capital and made available by its chief spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye.

Adeyeye, who is also a member of the national caretaker committee, signed the statement, while explaining that the ruling of the Court of Appeal was a victory for the Rule of Law and a triumph for democracy saying, “what transpired at the Court of Appeal on Thursday, August 18, 2016  has once again rekindled our trust in the Judiciary as the last hope of the common man”.

“You will recall that the lead Judge of the five-man panel of Judges of the Appeal Court, Justice Morenike  Ogunwumiju on Thursday, August 18, 2016 delivered ruling on an Appeal brought before it by H. E. Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, executive governor of Abia state in respect of his Tax Clearance Certificate.”

Adeyeye likewise advised all well-meaning Nigerians as well as the Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC) especially, not to back-track at standing up to its responsibility of ensuring an impartial judicial system that will maintain a middle course on all cases brought before it.

Governor Ikpeazu told journalists at the government House, Umuahia, on Thursday, August 18, that his victory at the Court of Appeal will spur him to do more for the people of Abia state.
