The management of the Lagos state University (LASU) on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 expelled 69 students over examination misconduct during the 2015/2016 academic session and cultism.
The school said the decision to expel the students was taken during a management meeting. Twenty-five other students have been suspended by the school’s management for other various offences.
“The university Senate on the recommendation of the committee of provost, deans and directors on examination misconduct at its 228th statutory meeting held on Thursday, 2nd June, 2016, considered and ratified the expulsion of 69 students and the suspension of 25 others for the 2015/2016 academic session,” the institution said. Three of the students, Ademola Goloba, Femi Ibraheem and Olajide Oyekoya were expelled for being members of cult groups, especially the Aiye cult group and for engaging in a brutal fight.
Many others were expelled for use of dockets during examinations while some others imported foreign bodies to the examination hall as well as engaged in impersonation, among others. The sanction is part of the state government’s plan to sanitise the institution.
Last month, the government commenced an internship scheme for final year students of tertiary institutions across the state tagged ‘Ready, Set, Work,’ an initiative aimed at equipping fresh graduates with necessary skills to become job creators rather than job seekers.
