New leader will not save Boko Haram – FG

The federal government describes the naming of a new leader of Boko Haram as cheap propaganda

Says it is too late to employ such tactics to revive the defeated terrorist organisation

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says the military is not perturbed by the news of the emergence of a new leader of Boko Haram

The federal government has said the naming of a new leader for Boko Haram group by ISIS will not save the terrorists from imminent defeat.

The government in a statement on Thursday, August 4, by Segun Adeyemi, who is the special adviser to the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, described the naming of a new leader of Boko Haram as cheap propaganda, Vanguard reports.

Adeyemi said it is too late to employ such tactics to revive the defeated Nigerian terrorist organization.

He said: “By the way, don’t believe the cheap propaganda by the global terrorist group ISIS, which has reportedly named a new leader for Boko Haram.

“Our gallant military has put Boko Haram on the run and nothing will bring back the terrorists, not even the wishful thinking by ISIS.”

Similarly, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has said that the military is not in anyway perturbed by the news of Abubakar Shekau’s exit and the picking of Abu Musab al-Barnawi as the new leader of Boko Haram.

Director of Defence Information (DDI), Brig-Gen Rabe Abubakar said that the military is not interested in what happens at what he described as “nearly dead” Boko Haram terrorists, including change of leadership or alliance with ISIS.

Abubakar said that the military is only focused on complete destruction of the terror group irrespective of leadership and administrative changes.

Meanwhile, the new Boko Haram leader, Abu Musab al-Barnawi, has granted the interview to the Al-Naba newspaper discussing the Boko Haram war with Nigerian government.

The new Boko Haram leader blamed the West for spreading Christianity to the African region and also said that charities are assisting them in doing that.

Abu Musab al-Barnawi, says the West is trying to Christianize Africa and vowed to kill all Chrisians he could find.
