The Sultan has expressed delight over the recent increase in minimum wage

The Sultan of Sokoto,  Sa’ad Abubakar III has expressed concern over the poor living condition of Nigerians.

Sa’ad Abubakar said on Friday that state governors’ inability to pay salaries is the cause of increasing crime rate in the country.

Abubakar urged individuals saddled with the task of catering for the needs of the people to find a lasting solution to the problem.

The Sultan spoke during a courtesy visit to Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, in Benin City, ahead of the Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.

According to The Nation, the monarch said he is ‎delighted with the recent increase in minimum wage and payment of salaries by Oshiomhole.

“That is one of the things causing criminal activities. Workers are not paid and they cannot go to the market because there is no money to do that. There is hunger in the land.

“When people are hungry we know the consequence. As we all know, a hungry man is an angry man. We know the problems in the country. So as leaders, let us put our heads together and see how we can resolve them.”

In the same vein, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, has asked the federal government to be considerate of the citizens and do away with anti-people policies.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Abuja on Monday, August 8, 2016, Sultan Abubakar advised the government that to work with the people adding that where a policy is seen to be anti-people, it must be immediately reviewed.

The Sun reports him as saying policies should be in the interest of the people, noting that if policies do not work, there was nothing wrong in reviewing them.

The town hall meeting and policy dialogue was organised by the Alumni Association of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (AANI) in collaboration with the ministry of Information and National Orientation.
