Your days are numbered – Gen Africa to Niger Delta Avengers

Africanus Ukparasia aka General Africa, coordinator of Bayelsa State Waterways Security Task Force, says leaders of Niger Delta Avengers will soon be arrested

He says they would be apprehended just as he did to the killers of three soldiers in Nembe, Bayelsa state

General Africa pledges his support for the Buhari-led government

Africanus Ukparasia, coordinator of the Bayelsa State Waterways Security Task Force, aka General Africa,‎ has revealed his team would soon arrest operational leaders of the Niger Delta Avengers, Vanguard reports.

According to General Africa, this comes as part of his firm desire to rid the waterways of criminal activities.

His reaction comes on the heels of report from the Niger Delta Avengers that he and his boys were responsible for the death of three soldiers in Nembe, Bayelsa state, on August 8.

Contrary to media report linking Avengers to the death of the soldiers, Brig Gen Mudoch Agbinibo, spokesperson of the militant group, said the gang members paraded as killers of troops are well known followers of General Africa and ex-governor Timipre Silva.

But responding to NDA’s claim, General Africa accused the militant group of adopting diversionary tactics.

He said he would apprehend the avengers just as he did to the killers of security operatives.

A statement from the General Africa read: “In the aftermath of the arrest of three persons who were alleged to have killed three soldiers in Nembe on August 08 2016, the militant group, Niger Delta Avengers had claimed that the boys arrested were Gen. Africa’s followers. Ordinarily, we would not dignify the so-called Avengers with a response but unfounded and brazen as the claim is, we want to set the records straight by clearing the air on this diversionary tactics of the Avengers.”

General Africa also claimed that his boys are properly documented under the federal government amnesty programme.

He said: “That all of Gen. Africa’s boys are properly documented under the federal government amnesty programme, and the boys so arrested have given their names, their leaders and their communities.

“It is easy for anybody to go and cross-check with the amnesty office if any of these boys have at any time worked with Gen. Africa.”

According to him, if his boys were responsible for the death of the soldiers, he wouldn’t have handed them to security agents.

He said: “If the said ‘boys’ were followers of General Africa as the Avengers claimed, he would not have apprehended and handed them to the security agents.

“Africanus Ukparasia wishes to assure the Niger Delta Avengers that same way he apprehended the boys that killed the soldiers, he will also apprehend their key operational commanders and fighters to the security agencies if they do not stop their nefarious activities.”

He warned that the days of Avengers are numbered, even as he pledge his support for the Buhari-led government.

“The days of Avengers are numbered and we would like to state that Gen. Africa worked for President Buhari in the last general elections and would not hesitate to support his government to succeed. Therefore, the cheap propaganda of the Niger Delta Avengers would not deter him from doing what is right for Bayelsa state, the Niger Delta and the country at large,” he said.

We recalls that the Niger Delta Avengers also threatened to release photos and video of how Nigerian soldiers deployed to Niger Delta to maintain peace involve in illegal oil deals.

Niger Delta Avengers had claimed responsibility for major attacks on oil facilities in the region in recent past, vowing not to relent until the nation’s economy was completely crippled.

However, the militant group on Sunday, August 21, declared a ceasefire while indicating its readiness for negotiation with the federal government.

With this ceasefire, the group may also reconsider its plan to declare independence from Nigeria on October 1.
