The residents have raised an alarm over the menace
The prostitutes are said to be mainly teenagers
The once sleepy and serene town of Asaba, the Delta state capital has been invaded by teenage prostitutes, Leadership reports.
The report stated that residents of the town have been decrying the recent development and have raised an alarm over the situation.
One of the residents, Comrade Emeka Okonta expressed concern on the high rate of the menace in the town, especially with teenagers being very active in the sex trade.
The report revealed that teenage girls between 12 and 13 years believed to be secondary dropouts, during nightfall are seen in strategic places clad in skimpy dresses and wooing potential clients.
Some residents who spoke on the issue however advised women/ladies involved in the act to have a change of heart, even as they urged security agencies to take appropriate steps to curb the trend.
The sex workers are majorly seen around Texas plaza, Asaba township stadium along Nnebisi road, Summit Junction and Cable Point looking for patrons.
Reacting to the report, the Delta state police commissioner, Mr Zanna Ibrahim promised that the police will soon raid them off the streets of Asaba.
The rising menace of prostitution all over the country is becoming a source of worry. Last month, the 2016 edition of the annual Osun/Osogbo festival was invaded by prostitutes looking for patrons.
Meanwhile, three weeks ago, a NAIJ.com report on the activities of prostitutes in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, revealed that Nigerian prostitutes are silently among the worst hit in the economic slump facing the country.
In a related development, popular blogger and public commentator, Kemi Olunloyo recently said most Nigerian ladies between the ages of 18-years to 25-years-old are prostitutes.
