At least 13 people were killed when the gang robbed Senga village in Benue state
Several of the bandits were lynched while others escaped to neighboring village
A robbery gang, reportedly belonging to wanted notorious criminal, Terwase Akwaza also known as Ghana, has attacked Senga village in Kastina Ala local government area of Benue state, killing at least 13 people.
Moses Joel Yamu, the spokesman of the state police, stated that a five-man gang had on September 14 robbed a village, Daily Post reports.
The police spokesperson added that an irate mob had crushed the bandits and lynched two of them – a lady and one other later identified as “Chemical”.
Three others run away to Gbishe village, where their leader comes from, and mobilized for comeback.
Yamu noted that the robbers on reprisal, meanwhile, could not gain access to Senga because youths of the village had organised to protect their area.
He further clarified that the robbers diverted to a neighbouring Kenvenger village, which was next to Senga, where they murdered ten people comprising Terseer Akaya, a driver from Katsina-Ala who went to convey farm produce.
According to Yamu, an eight-month old baby, eight-year old child, their mothers and six others died in the process while five other people wounded were rushed to the hospital, where they receive medical treatment.
The police state command had since deployed officers to the area to control the situation.
This attack came just one month after the state’s governor, Samuel Ortom, placed a N5m bounty on Akwaza, an ex-amnesty boss.
