Land fraud: APC chieftain seeks transfer of court case

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Benjamin Apugo is in a big mess

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is hot on the heels of the APC chieftain

The anti-graft body says Prince Apugo is making efforts to thwart the court case

The EFCC has raised an alarm over the case of an APC chieftain, Prince Benjamin Apugo who the anti-graft body say is making moves to thwart the court case against him.

According to the EFCC, Apugo had asked the chief judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja to transfer the case brought against him by the anti-graft commission.

EFCC findings revealed that the application of Apugo dated Friday, August 12 is coming on the heels of a warrant of arrest issued by Justice D.E. Osiagor on Monday, July 4.

A previous warrant had already been issued for the arrest of Apugo on October 8, 2015 by Justice F.A. Olubanjo after he failed to appear before the court on same charge.

Apugo who was due to be arraigned in June 2015 on a three-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretense was alleged to have fraudulently sold six (6) plots of land valued at N36m belonging to the Nigeria Railway Corporation in Umuahia sometime in March 2013.

Apugo has since been elusive after being released on administrative bail by the EFCC.

According to the EFCC, he had through his counsel Professor Earnest Ojukwu (SAN) tried to frustrate the case on three instances either by applying for the quashing or the transfer of the case to another judge.

Meanwhile, the EFCC has been permitted to detain a former governor of Adamawa state, James Bala Ngilari by a high court in the state capital, Yola.

The court remanded Ngilari in EFCC’s custody over a N167million fraud he committed while in office as governor.

In a related development, three houses allegedly belonging to ex-governor of Katsina state, Ibrahim Shehu Shema, have been sealed by the EFCC.
