PDP chieftain Onuesoke attacks Governor Masari for criticizing former president Goodluck Jonathan over Niger Delta agitation

Masari had said that for six years Jonathan failed to develop the region despite huge revenues from oil within his administration

But according to Onuesoke, Jonathan was president of the whole nation, as such would not have concentrated on the development of Niger Delta alone at the expense of other parts of the country

Chief Sunny Onuesoke, a former Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Delta state, has slammed Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina state for taking a swipe at former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Masari had on Tuesday, August 29, said that for six years a Niger Delta president failed to develop the region despite huge revenues from oil within the administration.

Although Masari did not name anyone, the reference to a Niger Delta president was apparently made to Goodluck Jonathan.

However, Masari has been countered by Onuesoke, who said Jonathan was president of the whole nation, as such would not have concentrated on the development of Niger Delta alone at the expense of other parts of the country, Vanguard reports.

Onuesoke, in a statement in Warri, while reacting to Masari’s statement, said the governor should have directed such accusation to his Northern leaders, who ruled Nigeria for a greater part of the 56 years as a nation, yet there was nothing to show for it nationally.

He added that there was so much underdevelopment, poverty and illiteracy in the Northern part of Nigeria for these 56 years.

Listing the various achievements of Jonathan during his six years reign, Onuesoke said the former president administration implemented its agenda for national transformation in priority areas, including power, rehabilitation and expansion of national infrastructure, agricultural development, education and employment generation among others.

He said despite coming from Niger Delta, Jonathan concentrated more in developing the Northern and other parts of the country because he believed his constituency was the whole Nigeria and not Niger Delta.

He said: “The educational sector under his administration achieved a tremendous transformation as 12 federal universities of which four are situated in the North-West cities of Dutsinma in Katsina, Dutse in Jigawa, Gusau in Zamfara and Birnin Kebbi in Kebbi State, while 125 almajirai schools were constructed and commissioned with adequate teaching facilities to provide basic qualitative education to the less privileged in the society.”

Governor Masari had challenged ex-president Jonathan and other Niger Delta leaders to “come clean” on how they managed the region’s resources.

Masari also lamented that the way resources were lavished by the past PDP administration is the major reason some states in the country cannot pay workers’ salaries regularly.
