The suspects were arrested following a petition submitted by one Yahya Umar Santa, concerning an increase in the diversion of goods in the FCT and its environ.
Security operatives assigned to the Inspector General of Police's Special Intelligence Response Squad, have arrested a six-man gang for stealing N6 million worth of rice.
The suspects, Nasiru Mohammed, 28, Ibrahim Mohammed, 42, Yahaya Shuaibu, 38 and Alaramma Nura Idris, 37, Mallam Sani Mohammed Usman, 45, were apprehended following a command by the IGP, Ibrahim Idris, who directed that criminals behind burglary and theft in Abuja be arrested.
The command took action due to a petition written by Yahya Umar Santa, concerning an increase in the diversion of goods in the state.
Santa stated in his petition that 600 bags of rice worth N6m were taken by the suspects, who were arrested in placed such as Kaduna, Niger and Abuja.
Meanwhile, they are currently helping the police in its investigation to recover the rice that were stolen.
