Why we are defending Patience Jonathan - RNDA

The Reformed N-Delta Avengers has accused the EFCC of running a campaign of calumny against Patience Jonathan

The group describes Goodluck Jonathan as the political leader of the entire Niger Delta region being the only Nigerian of south-south extraction to have assumed the position of president

RNDA accuses the EFCC of running a campaign of calumny against Patience Jonathan.

Militant group, the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA) has explained why it took up the EFCC case against former first lady, Patience Jonathan.

RNDA in a statement on Friday, September 23 by its spokesperson, Cynthia Whyte, said it wadded into the matter because the anti-graft commission was clearly running a campaign of calumny against her.

According to Vanguard, the group recalled that it accused certain high-profile politicians from the Niger Delta region, including former president Goodluck Jonathan, as sponsors or patrons of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA).

It said: “The controversy generated by the revelation was yet to abate before the major militant groups in the region, including the NDA unanimously agreed to ceasefire and recognize the Chief (Dr) Edwin Clark-led pan-Niger Delta  Peace and Dialogue Group as the sole body to represent the region in the forthcoming dialogue with the Federal Government.

“Following the development, all stakeholders from the region were expected to close ranks and work for the peace and development of the region. And naturally, we changed our earlier disposition towards the former President.”

The group said as the only Nigerian of south-south extraction to have assumed the position of president of Nigeria, former president Goodluck Jonathan, is automatically, the political leader of the entire Niger Delta region.

RNDA said Jonathan deserves to be respected.

Meanwhile, the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) has attacked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over what it termed “deliberate witch-hunt” of former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience.

President of the IYC, Engr. Udengs Eradiri said ‎the commission’s ‎indiscreet media trial of Tompolo led to the crisis in the Niger Delta that plunged the country into the current economic recession.

The group said it is unacceptable and illegal to place the former first family on media trial without following due process. Dame Patience, he said like most former First Ladies made her money from gifts and gratifications adding that there was no law against such gestures.
