Angry youths set Zamfara police station on fire

The Magazu police station in Tsafe local government area of Zamfara state has been set ablaze by angry youths following a misunderstanding between the police and the people of the village.

A witness who pledged anonymity, speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said that the misunderstanding followed an alleged death of a suspect from the area, Ibrahim Muhammad, in police custody.

It was gathered that the suspect was detained for allegedly stealing a cell phone.

According to him, Muhammad’s death angered the youth of the village who went berserk and set the police station on fire.

Shehu Muhammad, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, confirmed the incident.

The spokesperson said the State Police Command was already compiling a report on the mayhem.

Meanwhile, 3 police officers have been killed by some unknown gunmen on a road between Plateau and Kaduna states.

The sad incident occurred at Hawan Kibo, the boundary between Plateau and Kaduna states. A police source who confirmed the attack said the officers’ rifles were also taken away.
