APC moves to investigate Tinubu’s anti-party activities

The crisis currently rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) seem to be far from over

It appears the party is hell-bent on disciplining one of its founding founders, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu

Tinubu has been accused of engaging in anti-party activities

A report by The Punch indicates that the APC may have initiated moves to investigate allegations of anti-party activities against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The ruling party’s move may have been informed by the recent declaration of a former APC chieftain, Bola Ilori, who revealed that Tinubu asked some APC members in Ondo state to move to the Alliance for Democracy (AD) after the perceived injustice melted to them.

The report stated that Tinubu is believed to be supporting Chief Olusola Oke, a former governorship aspirants in Ondo APC, who recently defected to the AD with his supporters.

According to the report, the leadership of the APC, considered Tinubu’s support for the AD as constituting anti-party infractions that should not be ignored.

Tinubu’s frustration was informed by his favourite candidate in the Ondo primary, Dr Olusegun Abraham losing out to Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN).

Tinubu is not happy with the emergence of Chief Rotimi Akeredolu as the APC candidate for the Ondo polls

Dr Abraham had immediately after his loss alleged that the delegates’ list for the Ondo APC primary was  doctored to favour Akeredolu.

Backing Abraham, Tinubu fired the first salvo, requesting for the resignation of the APC national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

Tinubu accused Oyegun of sabotaging the will of democracy in Ondo state by sending the name of Akeredolu to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against the decision of the appeal panel that demanded for a fresh governorship primary election.

Some party sources quoted in the report who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they had proofs that Tinubu had released funds for Oke’s campaign.

Meanwhile, the Ondo APC has confirmed that some members of the party were under investigation over alleged anti-party activities.

The publicity secretary of the party, Mr Abayomi Adesanya, said some members loyal to Tinubu had been found to be involved in some anti-party activities.

His words: “We are yet to confirm if our national leader is involved in anti-party activities but we will investigate; we are very sure that some of his boys here are involved in anti-party activities but when it is time, appropriate action would be meted to them.”

“Anti-party action is a serious offence in any political party and in our own party, total expulsion is the penalty.”
