There have been mixed reactions since Justice John Inyang Okoro’s allegation
This is coming at a time when the Nigerian Senate, on Thursday, October 20, looked into the matter and declared its willingness to call on the affected judges
Mixed reactions trailed Justice John Inyang Okoro’s allegation that his issues with the Department of State Services (DSS) was linked to the unproven desire of the presidency and the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), to win the Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Abia states election appeals, Vanguard reports.
Justice Okoro had written a letter to the chief justice of the federation, Mahmud Mohammed claiming the raid on his residence by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) was because he refused to help Rotimi Amaechi.
In the letter addressed to the chief justice and obtained by Sahara Reporters, Okoro admitted that $38, 800 and N3.5 million was found in his apartment when DSS operatives raiding his houses in the early hours of Saturday, October 8.
He however said the money was the balance of his medical/vacation allowances which he has received for three years.
Some of the people who spoke on the issue were senior lawyers and politicians and Niger Delta leaders.
The reactions ranged from downright dismissal of the bombshell as an afterthought to call on Amaechi to resign as minister.
This is coming at a time when the Nigerian Senate, on Thursday, October 20, looked into the matter and declared its willingness to call on the affected judges.
However, Justice Okoro is one of the judges, whose homes were invaded by operatives of the DSS, over alleged graft.
Some of the judges arrested were: John Inyang Okoro and Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court and a former Chief Judge of Enugu State, Innocent Umezulike.
Others are Nnamdi Dimgba and Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja; Kabiru Auta, from Kano, Muazu Pindiga of Federal High Court in Gombe.
This operation was carried out in the early hours of Saturday, October 8 and were based on allegations of corruption and other acts of professional misconduct by a few suspected judges.
The arrest of the judges followed a petition that they allegedly received bribes from Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state.
