OJB Jezreel Singer's contribution to Nigerian music is immense

OJB Jezreel aka Jigga Man, was a renowned producer, writer, and executive producer for over two decades. To most teenagers listening to music today, it would be hard to remember the impact OJB had in the late 90’s and early 00’s.
As the famed producer takes a rest, we have taken a look at the 5 artistes he helped jump start their careers. We made an expository list to those not familiar with his rich production credits and a refresher to those that have forgotten the production exploits of the man known to millions as OJB Jezreel. Wizkid, D’banj, Durella, Ruggedman, and 2face Idibia were all on his starter lists, spawning their careers off their contact with him.

2face benefitted the most. 2Face was already a known star as a member of the 90’s/00’s R and B group The Plantashun Boyz. 2Face’s star power in the group was so great that everyone knew it was a matter of time before he went solo. In 2004, 2face struck out and went solo.
He sought the production prowess of OJB Jezreel, who was the hottest music producer in the country at the time for his highly anticipated debut album. For months, they slaved on songs that would end up on 2Face’s instant classic solo debut album Face 2 Face. The album catapulted 2Face into superstardom. In 2007, 2Face hooked up with OJB Jezreel again. The huge success of his sophomore Grass 2 Grace proved that you never change a winning formula. 2Face’s first two albums are widely regarded as his best LPs in his rich discography.
During the phase of the birth of the new age music in the late 90′s, OJB helped to redefine the sound to be more globally accepted with the likes of TX, Kush and Etim Eyo (Arista records) which made the likes of the then Leila Steinberg of Interscope Records see the possibility in our music becoming international mainstream.

His biggest break was with 2face's ‘African Queen’ setting a yet to be beaten record not just in Nigeria but in Africa. 10 million copies sold in Nigeria alone and 8 million copies internationally, automatically converting him into the most sought-after producing in Nigeria and some regions of Africa.
He stamped his presence on the Industry as an artiste with the club banger that still has a hold on the club’s years after – ‘Pretete’ (Meaning the involuntary movement of a woman's back side. And crowned it with a classic love songs "Searching" and ‘Don’t let me down’. His singing career spawned an impressive 6 albums and One EP.

During OJB’s reign, his Silverpoint Studios, located at Gbaja, Surulere, became the Mecca of Nigerian music, as every artiste who sought relevance and substance came through to the studio for his music. 2face Idibia recorded his groundbreaking debut album in that studio, so also did Hip-hop veteran, Ruggedman. Such was OJB’s kindness and compassion that even artistes who had financial challenges hung around his studio and got free sessions to support their dream.
OJB was also the confidant and role model for a number of artistes, as the time he spent with many helped propel their careers.
He leaves Nigeria, a veteran of the arts, and a man who positively impacted on our music, and the stars that came from it.
