The move is due to security fears that the process might be hijacked and result to violence

Reliable sources in Ondo state has informed NAIJ.com that the state chapter of the APC has settled for a military barrack as the venue for its primary election.

The barracks chosen is purportedly the Army Barracks along Ondo road.

The primary elections were slated for Saturday, August 27, 2016 and there have been fears within the ranks of the party that the process might be taken over by violence.

“The party leaders feel that the only way to forestall violence is to move the election to a military barrack where maximum security can be assured.

“We have it on good authority that some desperate politicians have already perfected their plans to hijack the process and cause mayhem on that day,” a source close to the party leadership told our correspondent via phone.

The APC leadership in the state could not be reached to confirm the authenticity of this report before it was published.

There is tension among party members as accusations and counter accusations has been in the order of the day since news filtered into the town that one of the candidates of the party has been endorsed by the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

There was pandemonium on Thursday, August 18, at the APC secretariat in Akure, the Ondo state capital as warring members engaged each other in a gunfight.

Commercial activities were disrupted as shop owners, passers-by and motorists ran for their lives.

Some party members have been protesting the alleged imposition of one of the aspirants, Dr Olusegun Abraham, by Asiwaju Tinubu.

One of the governorship aspirants, Dr Tunji Abayomi, accused Tinubu of being responsible for the crisis. He claimed Tinubu summoned all the party’s leaders, including the chairmen of the party at the local government level to Lagos, where he directed them to ensure that Dr Abraham emerges as the candidate of the party at the primary.

Meanwhile, in a letter jointly signed by APC women leaders on Monday, August 15, the women leaders said that the preferred choice of Tinubu for the governorship election was not popular.

In a related development, the senator representing Ondo North senatorial district, Professor Ajayi Boroffice has advised members of the APC in the state to forget the speculations going round in town on the reported anointing of any of the aspirants.

In a statement issued through his media aide, Kayode Adeniyi. Senator Boroffice the the speculation of  endorsement is a baseless distraction.

The Ondo state governorship election is slated for Saturday, November 26. The governorship race is a straight battle between the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Yesterday, August 22, Eyitayo Jegede emerged the winner of the PDP primaries in Ondo state.

The former commissioner for justice and attorney-general in the state scored 760 votes to beat his closest rival, Saka Lawal who scored only 22 votes.
