Five reasons why Buhari is a blessing to Nigeria

Buhari being a blessing to Nigeria could be subject to debate by various interest groups

The president’s second coming to the nation’s leadership has put Midas touch on many aspects of governance

A good number of religious and non-religious personalities have continued to eulogise the retired soldier-turned politician

There are some signs needed to know if a leader is a success or a failure. The current civilian ruler of the country, President Muhammadu Buhari, is one in a million man.

Buhari is the first man in the history of Africa to have won a presidential election after the fourth attempt. A great number of people had even dubbed him as a seasonal failure. They said he will never come near the presidential seat not to talk of leading the country as a democratic president. However, the story changed when he won the presidential election of Saturday, March 28, 2015.

Buhari may have been lampooned in some quarters as being a disaster when it comes to economic management. However, one thing people must recognise is that so many aspects of the Nigeria life have been stabilised.

1. What Men-of-God are saying about the current administration

Some of the Christian leaders who have identified with the present government are numerous. Suffice to mention Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka and Pastor WF Kumuyi. Both men have not hidden their admiration for President Buhari.

About a month ago, top religious leaders met at the Naional Stadium in Abuja, begging God to visit the country and help resolve its current challenges.

Pastor Kumuyi has often times called on Nigerians to be patient with the president. He told them there was light at the end of the dark tunnel.

On his part, Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka advised Nigerians to dissuade from cursing President Buhari. Mbaka said the president is a blessing from God to the people of Nigeria.

These prominent Christian leaders probably see in Buhari what other people fail to see.

2. Support from renowned Nigerians

On Tuesday, August 23, the second military Head of State of Nigeria between 1966 and 1975 General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) was a guest of the nation’s number one. Gowon did not come to visit the president for no reason than to tell him he has his backing.

Nigerians could call former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as ‘Ebora Owu.’ A good number of people may say Obasanjo himself is one of the architects who ruined the foundation outlay of Nigeria. However, the former Head of State made a powerful statement during his last visit to President Buhari. The farmer turned politician said Buhari is the best thing that has ever happened to Nigeria.

Professor Wole Soyinka, ex-Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), among others have also showered encomiums on Buhari for being what Nigeria and Nigerians need at this trying time.

There is nothing else to say that to appreciate God for allowing Buhari lead the country after his fourth shot at the presidency.

3. Reduction in corruption and corrupt practices

Findings from government workers especially at the federal level is an attestation to this fact that corruption has gone down. Although, the stench left by previous administrations in terms of corruption will take years to remove.

No one would have believe the level of monumental damage done to the fabric of the country, if Buhari had not come to power. Is it from Dasukigate to Diezani Alison-Madueke’s allegedly stolen billions of dollars? Or is it the retired airforce chief who was reported to have hidden millions of money inside a soak-away. The list is endless.

What several people fail to know is that the more corruption reigns in a society, the more society is submerged in various and will never come near a modicum of development. Even, one of the Bishops in London told the Queen of England during a private chat the this president (referring to President Buhari) is not corrupt. This has never happened before in the history of democratic rule in Nigeria

4. The person Buhari chose as his number two man

Yemi Osinbajo could be a professor of Law. However, he is an ordained pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God. This is a great sign. It is a great combination. There is a man who passionately detests corrupt practices as Commander-in-Chief and there is another man who leads Christian congregations in his Church. This has never happened before in Nigeria.

It should be recalled that the last time Buhari contested election in 2011, he also chose a pastor as his running mate in the person Tunde Bakare.

5. Drastically cutting the wings of Boko Haram insurgents

When the once-upon dreaded terrorist group was on rampage in the Northeast region of the country, that part of Nigeria was being foreseen to go into extinction due to the level of havoc wreaked by the insurgents.

For more than nine years, Boko Haram had taken over almost all the local governments in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states. It got to a point that Nigerian soldiers who were known for their gallantry feared to face the terrorists on the battle field. This continued on for years without no tangible solution at sight. However, as the present administration came on board, in less than a year, the incessant of the previous years became a thing of the past.
