Budget padding: Why I was summoned by APC - Jibrin

The former chairman, committee on appropriation of the House of Representatives Abdulmumin Jibrin on Tuesday, August 2, said he was not summoned by the disciplinary committee of the All Progressives Congress

Jibrin said he was only summoned by the party in respect of the crisis between him (Jibrin) and the speaker of the House Yakubu Dogara

The former chairman, committee on appropriation of the House of Representatives Abdulmumin Jibrin has given reasons why he is being summoned by the All Progressives Congress.

In a statement sent to NAIJ.com, Jibrin said he has not been summoned by the party’s disciplinary committee but was only invited by the party in respect of the ongoing #BudgetPadding crisis in the House of Representatives.

“That I only received a letter yesterday evening inviting me to a meeting in respect of the current crisis in the House today by 2 pm at the party’s secretariat,” Jibrin said.

Jibrin the letter sent to him by the party did not state that he is expected to appear before any disciplinary committee.

“The letter did not in anyway indicate it is a disciplinary committee. And I have responded that I will attend the meeting despite my tight schedules shuttling between security and anti corruption agencies to provide support and evidence against speaker Yakubu Dogara and nine others,” he said.

He also said he is confident that the APC will do the right thing by throwing its weight behind him to support the President Muhammadu Buhari’s fight against corruption in Nigeria.

“The Party had stated that it has made several attempt to reach me through calls and text messages. I did not receive any, even if I did, it would have been very difficult for me to attend because of the attempt by the quartet of Speaker Dogara and others who were determined to abduct or kidnap me until few days when my lawyers requested and got maximum protection for me from the DSS and police,” Jibrin said.

“I am confident that the party will do the rightful thing by throwing its weight to support our resolve to wipe out corrupt people and institutional corruption in the House and prevail or direct speaker Yakubu Dogara, deputy speaker Yusuf Lasun, whip Alhassan Doguwa and minority leader Leo Ogor to reconvene the house immediately and Step aside to face their imminent prosecution and save the party and our dear country further embarrassment.” he added.

Since the past week, the Nigerian polity has been lit by allegations and counter allegations between the speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara and Jibrin.

Jibrin in series of allegations had accused the speaker alongside 12 other of illegally adding over N40 billion to the already passed 2016 appropriation bill.

Just yesterday, August 1, Jibrin in a strange move against Dogara filed petitions in four government agencies – the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, the Department of State Services and the Nigeria police.
