Globacom leads in internet subscribers’ acquisition in June

Data grandmasters, Globacom, grossed a total of 26,628,065 internet subscribers by June to again maintain its leadership of the sector in the area of new data subscriptions.

This analysis is based on the latest numbers released by the telecom industry regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on its website.

Globacom’s acquisition increased by 272,674 from the 26,355,391 it garnered in May 2016. The Globacom figure represented 86% of the total number of 318,008 new internet subscribers recorded by the four major operators in June.

The only other network which gained new data subscribers in June is Airtel, which recorded a total of 17,325,423 subscribers in the month, up from its 17,280,089 figure in May. Airtel had added 45,334 new internet subscribers in May.

MTN and Etisalat, incurred negative growth during the period under review.

Etisalat lost thousands of data subscribers at the end of June, dropping from it’s figure 15,508,024 in May to 15,253,513 in June. This means the network lost 254,511 internet subscribers within one month.

MTN Nigeria also recorded a loss. Its subscribers in June were 32,974,177, down from the 33,108,786 internet subscribers it had in May. This means that it lost a total of 134,609 within the period.

The growth streak of Globacom in the data sector has been linked to the innovative products and services the company introduced. These include Data Overload, Talk Special, and the latest one TGIF which offers a handsome 3GB data for just N500 on weekends.
