EFCC detains Godswill Akpabio's younger brother

A report by Sahara Reporters claims that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested the younger brother of former Akwa Ibom state governor, Ibanga Akpabio.

According to the report, the younger Akpabio who is the current deputy chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom state was arrested by the commission in connection with fraud.

Ibanga is the younger brother of Godswill Akpabio, who is now a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Sources at the EFCC said that Ibanga was arrested and detained at the Zonal offices of the EFCC in Port Harcourt for defrauding a member of the Federal House of Representatives, Robinson Uwak.

He is also being interrogated over allegations of fraud and money laundering according to EFCC operatives.

The former Akwa Ibom state governor was interrogated by EFCC for hours over alleged diversion of Akwa Ibom State funds running into billions of naira, a charge, he vehemently denied. The case is still in progress.

Meanwhile, Sahara Reporters recently obtained a telephone recording of Ibanga Akpabio where he bragged about his connections with security agencies as well as the chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.
